School Ethos and Values

Hope, Faith and Love

And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
(1 Corinthians 13:13, NKJV)

At Ramsgate Holy Trinity we aim to create a secure, happy and stimulating learning environment anchored in our Christian identity. We believe that our Christian faith plays an important role in teaching our children about British Values.

The Government defines British Values as:
- democracy
- the rule of law
- individual liberty
- mutual respect
- tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs.

Our children grow up in a rapidly changing wold – therefore our children need strong academic foundations and a reliable moral compass. We interrelate skills and knowledge with our Christian values: Hope, Faith and Love.

Love - love for all creation; love for one another expressed through kindness, compassion and charity; love for ourselves

Faith - faith in God; faith in salvation and forgiveness; faith in ourselves

Hope - the confident expectation of what God has promised; hope that we will never be left alone and that there will always be help available; hope because we will always aspire to be the best version of ourselves

Everything we do is underpinned by our Christian values. They are reinforced not only in our daily acts of worship, the teaching of Religious Education and the delivery of a broad, balanced and creative curriculum; they are promoted through the relationships, language, attitudes and expectations in the school.

At Ramsgate Holy Trinity, British Values and our Christian values are interlinked and expressed in many different ways. Here are just a few examples:

We celebrate Christian festivals as well as other multi-cultural traditions and customs.

We take part in national events, from Children in Need to World Book Day.

We listen to pupil voice and our children elect their School Council.

We follow behaviour rules, which are based on respect and co-operation, for the best of the individual and the school community.

We recognise our similarities and differences; we understand that everyone has their own needs and their individual gifts to share with the community. We celebrate our achievements regularly.

Children are able to make choices at our school whilst being challenged to always do their best.

We want all children to fulfil their potential; we build resilience and a love for life-long learning so that everyone is prepared for a world that is constantly evolving.

Your ordinary acts of love and hope point to the extraordinary promise that every human life is of inestimable value. Desmond Tutu
